Speaker: Anton Gaile

 

Anton Gaile obtained Dipl.-Ing. from Ravensburg-Weingarten University of Applied Sciences in 1990. He was the Head of Design transportation products from 2004 to 2008, and the Head of Design hydraulic products from 2008 to 2012, with Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH. Currently, he is the Head of Design flight control and actuation systems. He is responsible for development of Primary flight controls actuators (hydraulic, electrohydraulic and electro mechanic actuators), high lift system components (gearboxes, rotary actuators, transmissions, brakes drive units ….), landing gear actuation components (Actuators and hydraulic controls Cockpit levers, actuators for transportation (dampers, tilting actuators, Active damper systems….), actuation systems for industrial application (Electro Hydraulic Actuators).

 

Title: Electro Hydraulic Actuation Systems for Primary Flight Controls and Landing Gear Actuation                                                

 

Abstract:

The presentation provides an overview on different types of Smart Electro Hydraulic Actuators (EHA). The differences between actuator concepts, including strengths, and weaknesses will be explained. Also it will be explained for which application electro hydraulic actuation is prime and for which application this technology is not the first choice. Examples of electro hydraulic actuators for primary flight control, landing gear actuation, wind energy and transportation application will be provided.

Speaker: Bingheng Lu

 

 

Bingheng Lu obtained Bachelor degree from Hefei University of Technology in 1967, Master and Ph.D degrees from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1982 and 1986 respectively.

 

Currently, he is the Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Rapid Manufacturing, and Director of the High-end Collaborative Innovation Center. He is mainly working on Mechanical Engineering, 3D Printing, Biofabrication, and Nanomanufacturing. He is the Chief Editor of “Fundamentals of Machinery Manufacturing Technology”an MOE planned teaching material in the 9th  and 10th  Five-Year plans. He has published more than 400 papers, among which more than 100 were cited by SCI and EI. He obtained more than 10 patents.

 Speaker: Jianrong Tan,

 

 

Jianrong Tan is the distinguished Professor of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University. In 2007, he was elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

He is mainly engaged in mechanical design and digital manufacturing research, and put forward the combination of batch and custom mass customization design technology, engineering transition state, fuzzy state, random state model and digital prototype integrated simulation technology, combination of numerical and geometric complicated equipment multi-unit association, multi-level configuration and parameter matching analysis technology. He has won 6 national awards, including 3 items of national science and technology progress second prize, 1 item of the national outstanding teaching achievements first prize, 2 items of second prize, and 7 items of provincial scientific and technological progress first prize. He has published 8 books, and 142 papers in SCI/EI.

Speaker: Serhiy Bozhko

 

 

Serhiy Bozhko received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electromechanical systems from the National Technical University of Ukraine, Kyiv City, Ukraine, in 1987 and 1994, respectively. Since 2000, he has been with the Power Electronics, Machines, and Controls Research Group, The University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, where he is currently the Associated Professor in Aircraft Power Systems. Dr S Bozhko leading several EU- and industry-funded projects in the relevant area and his research interests include electric power systems for aerospace applications, including their architectures, electric power generation, distribution and smart power management, control and stability issues, as well as advanced modelling and simulations methods.

 

 

Topic: Advanced integrated starter/generator systems for More-Electric Aircraft

 

Abstract: This presentation will overview the starter/generator system’s state-of-the-art solutions and their future evolution to meet requirements of more-electric aircraft platforms, including the ways towards increased power density and expanded functionality. Based on technology of jet engine starting, the requirements for integrated starter-generator systems will be analysed and a few prospective system topologies employing novel electric machine types will be considered. The presentation will then consider in details the development of innovative starter/generator system for more-electric business jet; this is based on permanent-magnet synchronous machine controlled by active front-end power electronic converter. The key novelty of this system is the introduction of actively controlled power electronics into the main path of energy flow. The particularities of the system development, including machine electromagnetic and structural design, power electronic converter design, thermal management, control design and implementation will be considered in the details. The presentation will also overview the results of the tests campaign, confirming increased efficiency and improved weight of the proposed system, as well as newly introduced functionalities such as starting with controlled acceleration, torque slew rate limitation, capability for operation in parallel with other onboard sources and others. The discussion of follow-on ideas, including innovative electric power system architectures concepts based on the capabilities of the proposed starter/generator systems, will conclude the presentation.
